Winter 2025 sportshall and cross country

Derby Athletic Club teams compete at all levels and age groups. Club athletes of all ages are encouraged to compete for their club.

Please make a note of dates and times and watch out for sign-up sheets in the clubhouse. You can also talk to your coach about which matches and specific events would be most suitable for you.

Winter events include Derbyshire Minileague sportshall matches held at Queen’s Park Sports Centre, Boythorpe Road, Chesterfield, S40 2ND, on Sunday afternoons, starting at 1pm, throughout the winter season.

Age groups for winter 2025-26 are the same as summer 2025 – so if you were U13 in summer 2025, that is your age group for the winter as well. Sportshall events are aimed at U11, U13 and U15 athletes, and feature sprints, distance races, and field events such as vertical high jump, standing long jump, shot, speed bounce and hi-stepper.

The 2025 dates are:

Cumulative scores after the first two Sportshall matches.

There is no charge for DAC athletes to compete in club competitions, including Sportshall, Mini League, YDL Upper and Lower and Northern League.

Cross-country and road races

The club supports the North Midlands Cross Country Leagues throughout the winter months (October to January). This league offers races for Seniors/Masters, U17, U15, U13 and U11 for both sexes.

Teams are entered in to the Northern and National Cross Country Championships (including relays) in all age groups and both sexes. Teams are also entered in to the Northern and National Road Relays in September/October and April.

In September/October Senior Men race over six stages, Senior Women over four stages and U17s, U15s, and U13s race over three stages.

In the April relays the men’s team comprises 12 stages (they qualify for the Nationals via the Northern) and the women’s six stages (they can enter the Nationals direct without having to qualify).

The County Championships for cross country (individual entry) in January covers all age groups and both sexes.

Derbyshire Mini League Cross Country, for U11-U15 boys and girls, features races in October, November and December. More details on Mini League XC on the attached sheet.

Summer 2026 track and field club events

Derbyshire Mini League Track and Field

Usually four events are at Moorways Stadium, Derby (DAC’s home track) on Saturdays or Sundays through the summer, starting at 10am. Dates for summer 2026 will be announced here.

These events are ideal for athletes with less competition experience, as well as those who have competed before. They include sprints, hurdles, distance and relay track events, and high jump, long jump, shot and discus/javelin/howler on the field. Athletes may compete in up to three events plus a relay.

Field events have specified start times, and the track events run on from the 10am start of the first event.

YDL (Youth Development League) Lower and Upper Age Group

Age groups for YDL fixtures and details of fixtures are to be confirmed, due to changes in athletics age groups for 2026.

Athletes may compete in up to three events plus a relay. Only two athletes may compete for the club in each event, so athletes should liaise with the team manager or their coach to notify them which events they are available for and check which they have been selected for. The full range of track and field is offered.

Northern League

These fixtures are aimed mainly at senior athletes, although U18s may be able to compete in certain events if there is space. Athletes should liaise with the team manager or their coach to notify them which events they are available for and check which they have been selected for. The full range of track and field is offered.
