MiniLeague Track & Field

Please see the list of summer competitions for dates of summer 2024. The MiniLeague T&F meet dates are below (click on the date to see the programme of events available at each meet). For a full explanation of the Rules and Regulations click here.

Click on the dates below for the schedule (approximate timetable) for each meet. The track runs through and when each track race starts depends on the number of athletes entering each event. If events clash on the day, athletes can change to other events or register with the field event official and go to the track race. Track events cannot wait for people of field events but field events will do their best to accommodate clashes (please note in high jump the officials are not allowed to lower the bar).

Saturday 13 April, Saturday 27 April, Saturday 1 June, Saturday 29 June

What age groups can compete? U11 (school years 4 and 5), U13 (school years 6 and 7) and U15 (school years 8 and 9). U11 athletes must be nine or older on the day of competition. U17s can guest in most events – please check. All athletes can compete in three events and a relay.

Who is the competition for? All abilities, both experienced and those new to the sport. These meets were designed by the clubs of Derbyshire to provide a local opportunity for athletes to experience track and field competitions.

When do events take place? On Saturdays, meet from 9.30am. First event is at 10am and the meeting usually finishes around 2pm (depending on numbers taking part).

A competition schedule is used for each meet date. Track events flow through from 10am, depending on numbers, so athletes and parents should keep an eye on the track and make sure athletes arrive at the start line during the event before theirs. If in doubt, please check the running order on the timetable or ask the starter’s assistant on the start line.

Field events have definite start times, listed on the schedule. If events look as if they may clash, speak with a team manager for advice. The usual rule is to register for your field event and then complete the track event before returning to the field event.

Where do the meetings take place? Moorways Stadium, Derby – DAC’s home track.

How do I register to take part? Every DAC athlete aged nine and older, up to U15, is asked to compete. Sign up on the blue board at the track, or email details of the events you wish to do to juniors@derbyathleticclub.co.uk. We ask all athletes to sign up in advance and consider their event choices. It is possible at MiniLeagues (but not in most competitions) for us to accept a few athletes on the day. Derby athletes at MiniLeague may change their event choices on the day but must not do more than the allowed number of events (see below).

On the day: Turn up wearing your Derby shirt or vest and register with team managers on arrival. Please collect your numbers from your team manager at the first MiniLeague you attend each year and the use them for the next MiniLeagues (not other meets). Replacement numbers can be given but it helps if you can reuse your MiniLeague numbers. We change numbers for Sportshall MiniLeagues, and all other competitions have their own numbering system.

Turn up to track events at the start line during the event before yours and report to the start team. For field events, go to where your event will take place (for example, the shot put circle) 15 minutes before the advertised start time and report to the officials running your event.

Car parking at Moorways on competition days: Volunteers assisting with each meet (team managers, officials, kitchen team, administrators) and Derby AC coaches who regularly coach the athletes may park free next to the stadium. A list of these volunteers is provided to the Scout groups who operate the car park for the day. All other spectators and athletes will be directed to the Rolls-Royce car parks and asked to pay £2 on the gate (cash please) to the Scouts, who volunteer to help coordinate car parking as a fundraiser for their activities. Please allow 15 minutes to get from the car park to the stadium.

Relays: Let your team manager know when you register if you are available for relays at the end of the meet. We attempt to give all athletes wanting to do a relay the chance to take part, but sometimes numbers do not allow this. Relay teams will be written up and placed on the results board at each meet as soon as is possible; please check the board and practise handovers with your teammates if possible. If athletes are selected for relays, please could they stay for the event as three others are depending on them.
