Calling all athletes – look out for summer 2026 T&F programme and please take part
We will soon be announcing dates for the summer programme of track and field events at the DAC home track of Moorways and elsewhere in the area.
Derby Athletic Club is a competitive club, which means we expect all club athletes to compete for the club. There is no extra charge for athletes to take part in club competitions, as entry is included in your annual membership fee. All these events take place on a Saturday or a Sunday.
Some competitions are open to all athletes, while for others the club can field a maximum of two athletes per event. We encourage athletes to consider taking part in a range of events, and there are also non-scoring races available. Team managers will always endeavour to give an interested athlete the chance to compete.
Athletes need to be nine years old or over to compete.
Many events are held at Moorways in Derby. If an athlete wants to compete at an event at another track, and there is an issue with transport to the track, please discuss with your coach or a committee member, as car shares can often be arranged.
Over the last couple of years we have seen a decline in numbers for league events; if athletes do not put themselves forward to take part in the club competitions, it is likely that in future years the offer to club members will be greatly reduced, or even withdrawn, which is something that we want to avoid.
The club has committed to the following track and field competitions for summer 2026:
- Derbyshire Minileague – four events, all held at Moorways, for U12, U14 and U16 age groups
- Youth Development League (YDL) Lower Age Group – four events, for U14 and U16 age groups
- YDL Upper Age Group – four events, for U18 and U20 age groups
- Northern League – four events, for senior athletes, although U18 and U20 athletes may be invited to take part
Age groups for summer 2026:
Age groups are changing from April 2026. They will now correlate with school years as follows:
- U12 – school years 4-5-6
- U14 – school years 7 and 8
- U16 – school years 9 and 10
- U18 – school years 11 and 12
- U20 – school year 13 and the following year (if birthday is after 31 December)
