Cross Country County Champs success for Derby AC athletes
Derby Athletic Club’s junior and senior runners once again triumphed in the Derbyshire county cross country champs with a series of team and individual wins and top placings.
Team success in the January 2026 event included first and second-placed team in the U15 girls’ and U15 boys’ races, first team in U17 and U20 women’s races, and first team in the U11 and U13 boys’ races.
Individual race victories came for strong-performing juniors Joyce Lenton (U13 girls), Olivia Lee (U15 girls), Harry Lees (U11 boys) and William Saunders (U13 boys) as well as Iris Clarke for the U20 women, Evelyn Jones for the senior women and Clive Toplass for the M65.
The DAC squad also showed strength in depth, with club athletes taking the top three places in the U13 boys’ race, the top four places in the U15 girls’ race, first, third and fourth in the U20 women’s race and second, third and fifth in the U15 boys’ race.
The Derbyshire championships, held alongside the Nottinghamshire event, were staged at Bulwell Park on a very frosty, cold course which really challenged the runners.
A massive well done and congratulations to all the DAC runners who took part in the event, and many thanks also to race officials, parents and supporters who made the champs happen.
