DAC athletes score success at Derby 10-mile race
Derby Athletic Club had a fantastic morning at the Western Power Derby 10-mile race on Sunday 17 November. Our very own Ben Connor won the race in a new event record time of 49:42, only three seconds ahead of the second-placed athlete, Dougie Musson from Notts AC.
Kev Farrow came a strong fourth in 54:47, and Alun Thomas was 17th in 59:42, with Richard Wilson, running as a V40, in 22nd place in just over one hour. The Derby AC men’s team came first overall, with Ian Stevens (1.05:04) completing the successful line-up.
For the women, Tracey Hinxman was impressive, coming second in 1.02:48, just two seconds behind the first-placed woman. Bethan Hudson was seventh woman to finish in 1.06:12, and Jill Burke was fastest V55 woman in 1.12:02. The combined effort of these three athletes saw the club do the team double with another first place.
Well done to all competitors in a rainy race – with a route that had to be redrawn because of flooding at Elvaston Castle.
