Derby athletes compete in English championships
Four athletes from DAC travelled to Bedford to take part in the England Athletics U20/U23 Championships in June.
Athletes have to make a tough qualifying standard just to enter the event.
The four were:
Florence Beedie (100m)
Hannah Barnden (javelin)
Isaac Wood (discus)
Ella Blakey (100m)
Molly Hudson also qualified but was unable to attend due to family commitments.
The Derby athletes faced a strong field in every event, and conditions which made PBs elusive across the board, with strong winds.
Florence came sixth in her 100m heat, while Ella came fifth in hers, reaching the semi final.
Isaac came ninth in his discus competition, and Hannah came fourth in the javelin, throwing strongly but just missing a medal.
Sprints and jumps coach Paul Blakey commented: “It was a really tough competition, and all the athletes achieved amazingly just to qualify. It’s quite an experience for them to compete against some of the top names in their disciplines.”
