Sign up this week for national cross country champs
Derby Athletic Club athletes are encouraged to sign up this week to run in the Saucony English National Cross Country Championships 2023, which takes place on Saturday 25 February.
Entries for the Championships close on Friday 27 January and late entries will not be accepted. Derby Athletic Club athletes who want to take part should sign up on a club night as we complete a block entry from the club. Please do not enter individually if you want to run for the club.
The event is at Bolesworth Castle, about eight miles from Chester, which has plenty of space for parking cars, coaches and minibuses. There will be a £5 parking charge per car, payable on the day.
Races will take place for all age groups from U13 upwards; all races will be over two laps. The first race starts at 11am with the final race, for Senior Men, at 3pm. The venue’s spacious grounds mean that the Senior Men’s race will be over two 6k laps rather than three 4k laps, which should reduce lapping.
This year marks the 135th time the Senior Men’s race has been run, and the 90th time for Senior Women. It will be the 75th time for is the Junior Men’s race, which is open to athletes aged 17, 18 and 19 on 31 August 2022.
Runners can look forward to a flatter course than at some events, but an interesting route is promised for all races. Clubs are welcome to put up their own marquees and tents.
