Sportshall success at Chesterfield for U13 boys
There was a good turnout on Sunday 10 November at the indoor Sportshall event in Chesterfield, with some great individual performances and plenty of DAC athletes winning their events.
One highlight was a great victory for the U13 boys in their section, winning by a margin of 23.5 points. If we could have a few more athletes joining in we could do even better!
The next sportshall is on Sunday 1 December. Events start at 1.30pm, and the whole competition is usually finished before 4pm. Sign-up sheets will be up in the club room from Thursday 14 November.
Sportshall is a great event, especially if a younger athlete has not competed often – or at all – before. And of course the weather doesn’t matter as the event is indoors. It is aimed at U11s, U13s and U15s, boys and girls.
For winter competitions, U11s are years 4 (but they must be nine years old) 5 and 6; U13s are years 7 and 8; U15s are years 9 and 10. Children aged under nine can compete in a non-scoring U9s race.
Sportshall events include sprint and distance races, relays and indoor field events. On 1 December the events on offer include standing long jump, speed bounce, shot and hi-stepper (for U11s), as well as sprints and distance races. Athletes can compete in up to three events plus a relay.
Remember that the older children in each of those age groups will go up a group for the summer (so year 10 athletes will be U17).
