DAC athletes meet stars at Diamond League

The club’s U20 woman had a fantastic day in Birmingham, when they were invited to take part in the relay as part of the Diamond League event.

A big thank you to distance runner Molly Hudson and multi eventer Karla Teece for stepping in when two sprinters were not available, alongside Lauren Blakey and Mya Wright, led by team captain Ella Blakey.

Derby had a huge task, facing top relay teams, including huge clubs such Cardiff, Birchfield Harriers, Gateshead, Manchester, Notts and Trafford. The club showed great team spirit and they coped admirably, helping the team to finish fifth, beating Gateshead and Manchester.

Ella Blakey, Team Captain, said she was so proud of Molly and Karla stepping into the team at short notice and equally proud of Mya, who is still U17, and Lauren, who had to run last leg for the first time.

They all enjoyed the great atmosphere of running in a packed stadium and rubbing shoulders with some of the world-class athletes such as Dina Asher-Smith, Adam Gemili, Shauna Miller-Uibo, Katarina Johnson Thompson and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce to name a few.
