Lower YDL Match 3 Roundup

Well done to all who took part in the third Lower YDL Match in Derby. Not only did we win the match but we came top of our division in the League. It has now been officially confirmed that we are through to the promotion match. The team really deserves this success – you all gave your very best effort on the day despite the uncomfortably hot conditions. Once again many of our athletes competed in additional events that they would not normally choose, and some stepped in at the last minute to fill in for people who were ill or who didn’t arrive. It is this willingness to work as a team which made the critical points difference and led us to victory.

Our promotion match is at Grantham on Saturday 15th July.

The sign up boards will be at the track from Tuesday 4th July 2017 onwards. Please use the sign up boards or e-mail us to  confirm that you will definitely be able to compete. We will not accept ‘word of mouth’ from coaches for the next match. Please try to make it to this event – only the top two teams will be promoted and we are up against some tough competition.

Our ‘athletes of the day’ for our Derby match were once again difficult to choose , but our final four are as follows:

Ellie Landers – Ellie has competed in all three matches and is always happy to do what ever events we ask of her. She always gives her best effort and she is also very good at supporting others and encouraging team spirit.

Toritse Etuwewe – Toritse competed in the maximum number of events, giving strong performances in all. She wasn’t sure about doing the 300m relay,  but did it for the team points, ran a great leg, and the team came home in first place.

Ernie Cresswell  –  Ernie did amazingly well to compete in the 100m, 300m, 800m and 300m relay, gaining a big stack of points for our team. Hope you had a good rest on Sunday Ernie !

Ka-nnan Heywood – This was Ka-nnan’s first YDL competition and he proved himself to be an excellent sprinter, winning the 100m and coming second in the 200m. We hope you will compete for us again in the next match Ka-nnan.

Thank you also to Amy Braithwaite, who was poorly on the day of the match but still turned out to compete and gave her usual strong performances, and to Tom Silcock who competed in the 100m, 200m and long jump despite injury niggles. Your commitment is very much appreciated.

We look forward to seeing you all at Grantham on Saturday 15th July.
